About WRE Ltd

Western Renewable Energy is a company specialising in hydro power, operating throughout England and Wales from our base in the South West. We offer a range of services for potential developers and site owners all through the design and installation process. Our extensive experience in micro-hydro covers schemes from concept to completion and long term maintenance.

Our team of design engineers and installers regularly carry out all aspects of initial feasibility work, licence negotiation, detailed design, project management, installation and maintenance. We have designed and installed a wide range of small hydro systems, from small new build systems, to old mill sites and larger sites with significant civil engineering challenges.

We are the UK’s leading independent designer and installer of Archimedean screw turbines as well as having designed and installed many higher head systems using crossflow and Pelton turbines.

Hydropower continues to provide a reliable, sustainable source of energy in the UK and currently provides around 1,500MW of electricity from existing schemes. There is a great potential to increase this figure and WRE Ltd is committed to designing and installing more sites using this historic idea through the use of modern technology.
